Taking Action during Federal Election 2021

As the voice of museums in Alberta, the Alberta Museums Association is dedicated to advocating on behalf of our members to achieve effective public policies and support for the sector.

That's why we are seizing the moment during this federal election and making a focussed push in favour of a new, sustainable government partnership framework.

In collaboration with the Canadian Museums Association (CMA), we issued an open 2021 election letter to all party leaders, urging them to commit to updating Canada's 30-year-old national museum policy.

The letter describes the unique role of museums in today's Canada and what an effective national museum policy would look like, stressing our collective desire to establish a long-term partnership with government that leverages and strengthens the social, economic, and cultural value of museums.

We are now calling on you, our members, to help spread the word:

  • Read the full letters below.
  • Share the letter with your network. Republish it on your website, include it in newsletters, and post it on social media. Consider tagging your local federal candidates and using the hashtags #MuseumsMatter #elxn44 #canpoli.
  • Visit the CMA's Advocacy Initiatives page for regular updates on the election and announcements and other developments of interest to Canada's museum sector.

We hope you will join us in our advocacy efforts by reminding your candidates and elected officials of the vital role of museums as leading contributors to the social, cultural, and educational fabric of Alberta and Canada. The museum sector benefits with broad public engagement, and when we speak with one voice, we are stronger as a community!
